Traumatised, 2020

This painting illustrates a person who suffers from their own negative thoughts. Many people including Hayley Kim herself have a hard time breaking free from traumatising experiences. The bad things rarely disappear and only seem to keep growing. These memories, constantly remain in our head and sometimes provoke us. ‘Traumatised’ is created in an attempt to break free from these memories. The posture of the green figure especially, gives the feeling that they are approaching ‘me’ with other figures which are representing our fear. The face intentionally haunts the viewer to replicate trauma. There is a third figure who turns away to escape the stranger’s gaze. The garden is filled with brighter colours to show Kim’s attempt in changing this memory to a positive one, in hopes that these memories will haunt us no more.
